1st meeting of ISO/TC 227 – 'Springs' in Tokyo on 29.08.2005
The
first meeting of the
ISO/TC 227 – 'Springs' was held on 29.08.05 in Tokyo. It was joined by
the national leaders of
5 P-members
like China, France, Germany, Japan and Korea and
8 additional delegates of these countries.
Necessary
basic resolutions have been taken in addition to some special resolutions for 3
Japanese projects like shoot peening for springs or revision of ISO 2162-3,
vocabulary and symbols
or classification for springs to be pushed within short and to 2 Chinese
projects in the pipeline.
Two new liaisons have been established with ISO/TC 10/SC 6 (Documentation) and ISO/TC 17/SC 4 (heat treatable steels) for close working together in the future.
This
meeting evidently was very essential for Japanese spring makers since more than
20 people of JSMA followed that meeting as silent observers in the back.
Discussions
during the brakes of that meeting in which the silent observers have been
involved have been very interesting and useful for everybody.
After
the meeting the president of JSMA, Mr. K. Kato, came along and did a greeting
speech.
Several
famous representatives of Japanese economic life also came along and did
greeting speeches. These have been
Mr. R. Matsumoto, Director of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)
and Mr. M. Tanaka, president of
the International Standardisation Organisation in Geneva, and Mr. H.
Wakai, director of Japanese Standards Association (JSA).
Many
of them regretted very much that the US was missing due to organizational
problems.
This
regret was
also emphasized in the final speech of
the retired Mr. T. Maeda
who did a lot for the achievement of this ISO/TC 227 – 'Springs'
during his active time as president of JSMA.
The
next meeting of this ISO/TC 227 – 'Springs' is anticipated for mid of October
2006 in Germany.
ISO/TC 227 – Springs – first meeting 29.08.05 in Tokyo
The
aim of this TC is to establish new international standards to facilitate the
world wide exchange of spring products and more. A business plan to be discussed
on 29.08.05 was circulated on 13.05.05. Main topics are
1. Terminology and classification
2. Tolerances for
compression, extension and torsion springs
3. Inspection
and test methods
4. Processing
France
and Germany will represent Europe, England and Italy are asked to join that
meeting.
International Standards Conference – Dearborn 03. – 05.05.05
Annually
International Standards Meetings for the spring industry organized by ESF
(Europe), JSMA (Japan) and SMI (USA) have been since 2002. They took place in Düsseldorf
– WIRE 2002, April 2002, and in Yokohama, October 2003, and in Düsseldorf –
WIRE 2004, March 2004, and the last
one in Dearborn / USA, May 2005.
During
these meetings all items of the agenda for the ISO/TC 227 – Springs meeting on
29.08.05 in Tokyo have been discussed as there are for example:
Preliminary works for a revision of ISO 2162-3 to be completed by ESF, SMI and
JSMA.
Detailed works for an IWA document for global
tolerances for compression springs with a specific matrix of allowable tolerance
schemes to prevent customers from over-tolerating springs. .
Different
formulas to calculate spring rate tolerances used in various big spring
producing countries shall be improved on
the base of testing results to be collected from shop floors.
ISO/TC 227 – Springs
There
never was a special ISO/TC covering global standards for springs only.
SMI
(USA), JSMA (Japan) and ESF (Europe) stimulated in an international
standardisation meeting on 30.03.04 during the WIRE fair 2004 in Düsseldorf
the foundation of a special ISO/TC for springs and succeeded.
A
new “ISO/TC 227 – Springs” was founded in November 2004 with the following
participating (P) members being allowed to participate and
vote for the future:
China,
England, France, Germany, Japan, Italy and Korea,
and
the observing (O) members:
Brazil,
Canada, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland and Thailand.
The secretariat of this ISO/TC 227 is in Tokyo and will be sponsored by JSMA. The chairman of it is the current general secretary of ESF. The first meeting of the ISO/TC 227 – Springs will be on 29.08.05 in Tokyo.
